A Foggy Beach

5/29/2019

The inspiration for this painting came from my road trip to California in the Fall of 2018. I had just finished my master's at the University of Victoria. We strapped our surfboards to the car and immediately after thanksgiving in Vancouver with family we drove south.

'Oregon Mist', Acrylic on canvas, Stefania Gorgopa, 2019
On the way back through northern California there was a lot of fog. The crashing waves had this beautiful sea-foam green colour. The grey water blended into the fog and the sky. It was hard to tell where the horizon was.

I often paint in bright jewel tones. For this piece, however, I wanted to capture the monotone-ness of the fog, the waves, the sky. All shades of grey, white, blue and green. I love how the rocks add a contrasting focal point, grounding the light and airy colours.
Prints are available on my etsy shop and the original acrylic on canvas is still available for purchase.
